Kathryn & Grant’s Fort Worth Wedding at St. Patrick Cathedral and McDavid Studio

Kathryn and Grant’s June wedding was everything a Fort Worth summer celebration should be — beautiful, joyful, and full of the people who love them most. They said their vows at St. Patrick Cathedral downtown, that gorgeous historic cathedral whose soaring ceilings and stained glass make every ceremony feel a little bigger than life.

One of my favorite parts of the whole day happened before the ceremony even began. Instead of a first look, Kathryn and Grant chose a first touch — we set them up at the doors of St. Patrick Cathedral, standing back to back with the door between them, hands clasped around the frame, and they read their private vows to one another. Two voices, one closed door, and not a dry eye nearby. It was as tender and intimate as a moment can be, and one I’ll always remember.

From there, the party moved to McDavid Studio, where 175 of their favorite people gathered for a reception dressed in Kathryn’s fresh white-and-green palette with just the right pops of pink. Haute Poppies Floral filled the space with greenery, Sugar Bee Sweets handled the cake, and Arbutus Entertainment kept the dance floor packed well into the night.

There were toasts and first dances and all the moments that make a wedding day fly by — and, in one of my favorite touches, a late-night run of McDonald’s to keep everyone fueled for one more song. It’s those little personal details that make a celebration feel completely like the couple, and Kathryn and Grant’s did from start to finish.

A couple of other moments I can’t stop thinking about: at one point Kathryn took off running down the middle of the street, a joyful little homage to her favorite Taylor Swift — pure, unfiltered fun. And at the reception, Grant’s friends spontaneously hoisted him up over the crowd, and the second they set him down they scooped up Kathryn so she could be lifted even higher. If that doesn’t sum up the energy of this group, I don’t know what does.

With a wedding party by their side and the summer sun setting over the city, it was exactly the kind of Fort Worth wedding I feel lucky to photograph. Kathryn and Grant, congratulations — thank you for letting me be part of your day.
