Portrait Tips: Selecting your home as the location

Bridal Portraits

Sometimes you need look no further than your own home for your portrait location. There are many beautiful locations we can recommend or rent for your bridal portrait session but sometimes no where feels quite like home.

It may be your family home, a close friend or other relative but when you have an emotional connection to the location it creates more opportunity. For Katherine’s bridal session she knew she wanted them at her parents home near Rivercrest Country Club in Fort Worth. She had been photographed for proms and graduations as she grew up so it felt full circle to be home again.

A few things to know before committing to a private residence for your session:

1 – Connect with your photographer, share images of the spots you think would work well and have a conversation about if it will work. Your photographer can weigh in on if there is quality light, enough space and options for diversity in your photographs.

2 – Be ready to prepare the space. You may want to remove clutter, uncover patio furniture, remove waste bins etc… for a cleaner appearance ahed of your session date. Don’t forget to have the space cleaned and landscaped in advance.

3 – Explore other nearby options such as parks and museums for a second location if your residence only offers a couple of options.

Would you schedule your portrait session at home or a special location from your life?
