First Dance Tips (No Choreography Required)

Weddings

As choreographed first dances become more popular, we want to say this—you don’t have to have one.

Some of our favorite first dances are completely unscripted—full of real smiles, little surprises, and the kind of movement that happens when you’re just happy to be in each other’s arms.

Regan & Jonathan’s first dance at The Fort Worth Club was exactly that. No counts, no practiced turns. Just an embrace, a spin, and shared laughter that felt perfectly like them. It was the kind of moment you can’t plan—and one they’ll remember forever.

If you’re more “go with the flow” than choreo and footwork, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Pick a song you connect with—not one you think will impress guests.
  • Talk to your band or DJ about when to fade out the song (you don’t have to dance for 3+ minutes straight).
  • Decide ahead of time if you want a spin, a dip, or a simple sway—and let the rest be natural.

The first dance isn’t a performance—it’s a celebration. However you choose to do it, we’ll be there to capture it as beautifully as it happens.
