Kate and Clay met for their first date at Mutts Cantina Dog Park. They enjoyed margaritas there. Clay introduced Kate to his recently adopted puppy. What started as a casual meeting became a two-hour date. The couple bonded over many things. One of those was their love for pasta. From that moment forward, the two quickly began spending more time together. Reflecting on those early days, the couple explained that they were dating with intention. They discussed future plans and their shared desire to start a family.

In April of 2023, Clay proposed in Modena, Italy. Drawn to Massimo Bottura’s story, Clay made reservations at Osteria Francescana six months in advance. The two set off on their trip, Clay with his engagement plans and Kate blissfully unaware. On their second day in Italy, Clay took Kate to a market for sandwiches and fresh produce, then led her to the Duomo, where he proposed in the rain. A family dining nearby witnessed the proposal and, after capturing the moment on video, sent it to the couple along with a bottle of wine to celebrate. “It has been nearly two years since the proposal, and I am still in awe,” Kate declared
