3 Tips for Selecting A Church For Your Wedding Day

Weddings

Selecting the perfect ceremony spot to say I do is one of the biggest decisions made on early in the wedding planning process. For some couples it’s easy as they have a home church, a place their parents were married or a spot that has other sentimental value. But for some it is more about proximity and appearance for the date and location of their reception selection. If this is you here are a few things to consider when selecting your wedding ceremony church:

1 – The first question to field is if the church allows non-members or other denominations to utilize their campus. You will find varying answers to this question and some will require membership, donations or just a contract and payment.

2 – Take a look around. The sanctuary is one place you will definitely spend time on your wedding day but ask to see the getting ready rooms and spot some outdoor locations for photos. Many churches have couples dress in classrooms where others have more scenic options. Outdoors look for shade, architectural details (like the arches at this church wedding) and gardens.

3 – Get a list of rules for the big day. Every house of worship has varying rules on what is allowed and when. Collect those guidelines to share with your wedding vendors as you hire them. The most important ones to as for are:
photography & videography guidelines
rehearsal timing
Altar & pew decor restrictions
access on the wedding day
what items you are/are not allowed to bring on site

If your chosen church lines up with your wishes on these 3 areas then book your date and move on to the next to do on your wedding planning list. If you aren’t sure what the information they provide means then enlist your planner or wedding photography team to help you decode the rules and options.

St Stephen Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth is one of our favorite locations that does allow non member weddings due to their beautiful outdoor photo locations and ceremony rules that are strict but fair. Sophie & Braden had a beautiful wedding day there but did elect to do most of their preparations at the Fort Worth Club as the getting ready rooms at the church are quite small and dark.
