Taylor & Tyler – Engagement Session at Botanic Gardens & Water GardensFort Worth, Texas

Taylor and Tyler are getting married in Fort Worth later this year and TCU’s Robert Carr Chapel and City Club of Fort Worth.  These two may have some Fort Worth roots but life has taken them to Dallas where they met through some mutual friends.  Taylor & Tyler spend time traveling and LOVE sports!  Tyler attended TCU, although originally from California and Taylor grew up in the Fort Worth area.  For their engagement session they wanted a little nature and Tyler requested the Fort Worth Water Gardens.  It may be winter but I love the textures and tree lines at the botanic gardens this time of year.  I am excited to spend their most special day with them in August!

Abbey & Andrew – Engagement Session at the StockyardsFort Worth, Texas

Abbey & Andrew started their story in Fort Worth with a chance meeting.  It is Abbey’s hometown and Andrew lived in Fort Worth for work.  Although they only knew each other briefly they kept in touch after Andrew moved on to work in California.  Sometimes though things are just meant to be and as life happened and things changed in Abbey’s life she got a call for a job in California too and moved out West where she later reconnected with Andrew.  Second time was a charm but I have to say that I think they were meant to be after spending an hour with them in front of my camera.  These two are positively perfect together and just full of smiles, laughter and sweetness.  I loved that they were spending the Thanksgiving holiday together – even before they were married!  I was super happy that I got these two to sneak away from the family though for some photos!  And can I just say WOW to Abbey’s gorgeous outfit choice – so on trend and fun with beautiful coloring that just made her look stunning (don’t worry Andrew – you looked great to but can you blame me?) Can’t wait for your wedding next year!

Bethany & Tyler – Engagement Photos at Dallas Arboretum & White Rock LakeDallas, Texas

Tracy Autem 2015

Bethany & Tyler met in Dallas through mutual friends and they are already having BIG adventures together as they prepare for their June wedding next summer.  Bethany packed up her life here in Dallas and headed to North Carolina so that these two would not be apart while Tyler pursues his MBA.  I had such a great time getting to know Bethany & Tyler – they are super sweet and I can tell that this time in their life is so good for them.  While at school it is allowing them to have lots of quality time since Bethany is telecommuting to her job here in Texas.  I am so excited for all their future holds and their wedding next year.  Can’t wait!

Shelby & Whilden – Engagement Session in Trinity Park & Botanic GardensFort Worth, Texas

Tracy Autem 2015

Shelby and Whilden are getting married next spring here in Fort Worth and it is going to be such a beautiful reception at the Ashton Depot!  These two met in college at Texas Tech 3 years ago and their life has now brought them to Midland where they are working and living.  Leading up to the wedding here in Fort Worth where Shelby is from they are putting down roots in Midland – looking for a home and enjoying life with their 2 pups.  For their engagement session their doggies joined us for some photos at Trinity Park (thanks to Mom who dog wrangled!)  They were super cute and so sweet.  After some dog pics we headed to the Botanic Gardens and strolled around the Fuller Garden.  I loved Shelby’s blue bright dress, she has the most gorgeous smile.  Can’t wait for this wedding!

Aurie & Joe – 1 Year Anniversary PortraitFort Worth, Texas

Tracy Autem 2015

When Aurie reached out to me a few weeks ago about a 1 year anniversary photo shoot I had no idea all the fun I was getting into.  You guys – she surprised him with this photo shoot!  It was like a first look on a wedding day but 1 year later!  Aurie left Joe clues on what to wear, where to go and when to be there and then we prompted him to come outside where he saw his beautiful wife of one year in her wedding gown!  Why?  Well, one a wedding dress is so pretty that really all girls need to get some bonus wear’s out of it!  Two: sometimes wedding days aren’t as smooth as planned and it can mean that less photos are captured than really wanted.  That was the case for Aurie and Joe – their wedding was out of state and she decided to fix her one wedding day regret with a photo session.  I feel so lucky she asked me to be a part!

Joe and Aurie are so adorably sweet together.  After some romantic wedding day style portraits we headed for a picnic complete with their top tier wedding cakes – thawed out and ready to eat!  It was super special.

Happy Anniversary and here is to many years of surprises, fun and laughter!  You two cracked me up and just gave me all the good feels.

What to Wear – Engagement PortraitsFAQ

Wondering what to wear for your engagement portraits?  It is one of the most difficult challenges when it comes time to step in front of the camera.  Here are some of our tips and tricks to make sure your outfits look flattering and visually interesting.
One of our favorite things is when our clients are not afraid to layer clothing in males and females. Layering offers an additional dimension, definition of your body shape and interest to your photos.
Tracy Autem 2014
Make sure you are dressing appropriately for the season in which your photos are taken. If it is winter, layer up! If it is summer dress in lighter clothing. It may be wise for men to avoid long sleeves and suit jackets during summer months. If weather is expected to be hot bring along extra clothes incase you perspire and stain your clothing, it’s always good to have back up’s!
 Tracy Autem 2015
We encourage our clients not be afraid of bright colors or patterns. If you love patterns and bright colors EMBRACE IT!!!  You can always mix a bright with a neutral if you are afraid of all over color.
 Tracy Autem 2015
Make sure the colors you are wear are complimentary but not matching. We warn against wearing white shirts and jeans or something to that liking as we prefer you not end up on an awkward family photo blog!
 Tracy Autem 2015
If you are going to buy new clothes make sure you buy silhouettes that you know flatter your body. We suggest staying away from the loose clothing. An outfit that is tailored or cinched and emphasizes the smalls part of your waist is always flattering.
 Tracy Autem 2015
When in doubt, go with what you love!  Wear things that make you feel pretty and are complimented by your friends.  We love this quote by one of our REAL brides:
“Like most brides, I did tons of research and read lots articles about what to wear for your engagement session. When the time came to pick an outfit, I threw the advice out the window and did what I thought would be best. I was sadly mistaken. The best advice I can give you is to dress like the girl your fiance fell in love with. He didn’t fall in love with a picture in a magazine. Wear what you know looks good on you, not someone else. Don’t use this time to break out new styles or trends. Be YOU.”
-Heather
So get to shopping, raid your own closet and start planning your engagement portrait outfits!  When in doubt reach out to us for help by shooting us over some photos of the looks you are considering.  Remember that you will need 2 outfits for a 2 hour session and 1 outfit for a 1 hour or mini shoot.  For further ideas and inspiration see our Pinterest board of engagement photos.

Emilee & Jeff – Engagement Portraits in Fort WorthJapanese Gardens & City Backdrops

Tracy Autem 2015

This session was so much fun!  Emilee and Jeff grew up together in a small Oklahoma city and were friends but never close.  As they grew up, moved away and the internet stepped in the reconnected online and as they did they quickly fell for each other.  Now these two are living in Arlington and planning a Fort Worth wedding in just a few months.  These two were a dream to photograph.  So lovable, cuddly and laughing the entire session.  Jeffery knows just how to wrap his arms around her and whisper sweet silliness into Emilee’s ear that make her light up.  Her eyes are gorgeous, and when you combine that with her killer smile it is a fab combination.  Jeff was awesome and helped pick out our downtown locations where we concentrated on a more city urban vibe before heading over to the Japanese Gardens.  As a lover and teacher or literature Emilee of course has a heart for the Lord of the Rings and she adores the garden for that ethereal vibe.  I am on the edge of my seat waiting for this wedding!

Leigh & Evan – Engagement Portraits at Botanical GardensFort Worth, Texas

Tracy Autem 2015

I have missed engagement sessions!  The summer is so hot that many couples put of portraits until fall temps hit.  Leigh and Evan though were brave and woke up early for a sunrise session with me at the Botanic Gardens of Fort Worth.  It was so worth the early time though for some scrumptious light and some less than 100 degree temps (not going to lie – it was still warm!!)  These two are just adorable.  They have been dating for 3.5 years and will be getting married next April.  I can’t wait!  These two are so sweet together, they have an ease to them that is just so simple and perfect.  I always enjoy watching my couples together as all have unique ways they interact.  Pretty much every time Evan wrapped his arms around Leigh she flashed that killer smile – she is so gorgeous and even more so happy snuggled up next to Evan.  Leigh & Evan are going to have a great wedding!

Kelly & Dale – Romantic Portraits in Sundance Square & StockyardsFort Worth, Texas

Tracy Autem 2015

Dale & Kelly were married last year and never had engagement photos taken so I got to hang out with them for a bit last week to capture some romantic portraits of these two.  They met while Dale was on the job, he is an amazing landscaper (He designed and upkeeps our studio landscaping!  Blooms Landcare) and they literally met in Kelly’s backyard!  It took awhile before he did ask her out but once they did they fell fast and hard and were married last year.  Kelly is a spicy personality with lots of smiles, laughter and a loving and talkative spirt.  She was easy and quick to get to know and connect with.  I can see how these two definitely compliment each other.  Thanks so much you two for letting me capture this time in your lives.
